Frequently Asked Questions
– Custom Cabinetry in St. Louis
If you're considering custom Amish cabinetry for your kitchen, bath, or whole-home project, you likely have questions. Below are answers to the most common inquiries from designers, architects and builders I work with.
Who do you work with?
NG Living partners exclusively with interior designers, architects, and builders in the greater St. Louis area. We operate as a trade-only cabinetry design and supply partner, managing every detail from site measurement to delivery so your client’s cabinetry project runs smoothly.
Do you sell directly to homeowners?
No. NG Living is a trade-only studio. We collaborate behind the scenes with your design or build team, ensuring your client’s cabinetry vision is executed with precision and craftsmanship through our Amish cabinetmaking partners.
Do you have a showroom?
No — and that’s intentional. Because each project is fully custom and handcrafted by Amish cabinetmakers, there’s no showroom inventory or catalog. Every project begins with your client’s space, drawings, and design intent, resulting in cabinetry that can’t be seen or purchased anywhere else.
I bring samples, finishes, and materials directly to you, allowing design decisions to be made in context — within your studio or on-site. This exclusive, trade-only approach ensures a truly bespoke experience for every professional collaboration.
Do you charge a design fee?
Yes. Each project begins with a design and site measure fee, which covers field measurements, layout development, and detailed 3D renderings with finish guidance.
This fee reflects the professional time and precision required to design custom cabinetry correctly — from function and proportion to finish and installation detail.
It is independent of cabinetry orders and required before drawings or renderings are produced.
What types of cabinetry projects do you handle?
I specialize in custom Amish-built cabinetry for kitchens, baths, mudrooms, built-ins, bars, and vanities. Each project is fully custom — built to your drawings, space, and specifications, not modular or semi-custom boxes.
How does your process work?
The four-step process keeps projects clear and efficient:
Designer Inquiry – You share project details, goals, and inspiration.
Site Measure & Design – We handle the field measure and produce design drawings + 3D renderings.
Final Build Package – Once approved, drawings are sent to our Amish cabinetmakers for fabrication.
Delivery & Install – The cabinetry is delivered and installed by the Amish team, with full support throughout.
What sets Amish cabinetry apart?
Each piece is handcrafted by experienced Amish cabinetmakers in the Midwest using solid hardwoods, time-tested joinery, and meticulous finishing. Unlike mass-produced cabinetry, every component is made to order — offering unmatched quality, longevity, and character.
Can you match finishes or work with designer-specified materials?
Yes. I provide curated finish samples and stain matching to complement your project palette. Our Amish partners can work with designer-specified hardware, finishes, or specialty materials upon request.
Do you provide installation?
Yes. Our Amish craftsmen personally install the cabinetry they build. NG Living coordinates the schedule and oversees the process to ensure seamless fit and finish.
Where are your Amish cabinetmakers located?
Our cabinetry is handcrafted by Amish builders in rural Missouri, roughly three hours from St. Louis. Their workshops are closed to the public and operate without showrooms — a reflection of their old-world craftsmanship. NG Living serves as your professional bridge to this exceptional level of workmanship.
How long does the process take?
Typical project timelines range from 10–14 weeks from final approval to delivery, depending on scale and finish complexity. We’ll confirm a production schedule before fabrication begins.
Can I get a quote or estimate before drawings?
Yes — I can provide a preliminary cost framework once I’ve received the project’s basic details, dimensions, and finish direction.
For smaller scopes such as vanities or single built-ins, a clear estimate can often be developed from photos, measurements, and design intent.
For larger projects, including full kitchens and multi-room cabinetry packages, formal pricing is provided once design drawings are complete. This ensures your cabinetry quote is accurate to layout, materials, and finish selections — before any final approval or production.
Because each project is fully custom and built to order by our Amish cabinetmakers, final verification and scheduling occur after design sign-off.
Do you provide renderings or shop drawings?
Yes. Every project includes design elevations and 3D renderings as part of the cabinetry design process.
The 3D renderings are created for visualization — to help you and your client understand proportion, style, and finish direction.
The elevations, however, contain the detailed information that drives both pricing and production. They outline cabinetry dimensions, layout, and design intent, ensuring accuracy before anything is sent to the Amish cabinetmakers for build.Once a design is approved, the Amish team produces their own shop drawings for fabrication and installation. NG Living reviews these for accuracy before final sign-off.
